John Fenna – Shooting Sporter –
A Wright & Sons Ltd of Sheffield have been in the business of making knives since 1947 and are a traditional maker using apprentice-trained Sheffield cutlers and hand crafting each knife.
The model I have been putting through its paces is their spear point pocket knife with stag antler handle scales. It comes with a 71mm (2.75”) carbon steel blade, which is flat ground with a secondary bevel, brass liners and pins and nickel bolsters.
As a non-locking sub 3” bladed knife, this is one you should be able to carry as an “everyday user” without incurring any legal troubles, the action of the blade is strong and secure in use and there is absolutely no “play” in the pivot.
The fit and finish of the knife handle proved average, without a high finish, but the blade is well polished and the knife arrived well greased for corrosion resistance.
The blade did not come “shaving sharp” but a little work with the stones and a strop and the edge was matchless, and the steel held its new edge well.
The stag handle is attractive and comfortable and also gives a good grip, while the blade is a very useful length and shape.
Overall, this handsome, British made, pocket knife, makes a good every-day carry and should give years of service.
The stag-handled version of this pocket knife (A55) is also available with a horn handle (A54) or in rosewood (A53).
